The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron may be home of the America’s Cup, however, we are also home to some of the best yacht racing that our country has to offer.

With racing taking place throughout the year, there is something for everyone, from intense windward / leeward style courses, the harbour racing, sprints, and cruising.

Three Kings Offshore Race

This 500 nautical mile challenge starts in Auckland in front of the RNZYS, storms past Cape Reinga and rounds the majestic Three Kings Islands before returning back home. It’s a genuine ocean racing experience. With options for fully crewed and two handed, this Category 2 race is open to members of any yacht club and serves as a great qualifier other long haul offshore races.

Secondary Schools Keelboat Championship

The New Zealand Secondary School Keelboat Championship is School Sport New Zealand sanctioned championship held on the Waitemata Harbour in the Emirates Team New Zealand Elliott 7 Fleet. This regatta has been running since 2007 and attracts up to 20 high school sailing teams from across the country.

Matariki Race

Sail under the starts and celebrate Matariki.

In Māori culture, Matariki is the Pleiades star cluster and a celebration of its first rising in late June or early July. The rising marks the beginning of the new year in the Māori lunar calendar. This day differs each year.

Want to get involved but don't have a boat?

We have a number of ways you can get involved if you don’t have a boat. Our members have extended invitations to race and cruise on their boats across a variety of our series and annual events. Just get in touch with our team, let us know a little about yourself, and we will do our best to pair you with a suitable boat.
