The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron is the oldest and most successful yacht club in New Zealand, and the current home of the America’s Cup.

Established in 1871, RNZYS is a community of like minded people who all have a passion for being close to and on the water.

At the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (RNZYS) we’re a community united by a love of boating or just being on and around the water.

We are conveniently situated in one of Auckland Central’s best waterside locations, overlooking the Waitematā Harbour and Westhaven Marina.

We are the home of the America’s Cup, Lighthouse Café, the Members Bar & Restaurant, the highly regarded Mastercard Youth Training and RNZYS Performance Programmes, RNZYS Women’s Day Out, Barfoot & Thompson Learn to Sail, Bumbu Rum Race Series, 36 Degrees Brokers Commodore’s Cup, a regular social event programme and much more!

For many of our members, club racing and cruising is what drives us, but we know that ‘getting on the water’ is only part of what makes being a member of this club great. Membership Subscriptions

Our RNZYS membership has several different options designed to fit with what you want to get out of our club and all the other priorities in your life.

Membership subscriptions and benefits are available on the right. Our membership year runs from 1 May – 30 April and subs can be paid annually or monthly.

Membership Benefits

The RNZYS is one of the most prestigious sporting clubs in Aotearoa and a world-leading international yacht club. Our membership options are tailored to meet what you want to get out of the club and you can choose to pay your membership fees monthly or annually. We offer a range of social and boating activities, and many membership benefits:

• We are centrally located, harbourside with the best views in Auckland as well as convenient parking
• Casual and formal waterside dining: The Members Bar & restaurant, as well as Lighthouse Café
• Member discounts: Food and beverage, our bottle shop, room/venue hire, retail store merchandise, event bookings, racing entry, training courses, sponsor offers and accommodation at Lidgard House, Kawau Island
• Access to yacht clubs globally: We have reciprocal agreements with over 50 international yacht clubs. Many of these clubs have accommodation facilities including the New York Yacht Club and Royal Thames Yacht Club
• We will help you celebrate your birthday with a bar voucher
• Outstanding events on and off the water
• Regular communications featuring club news and events: Our weekly Mainsheet e-newsletter and quarterly Breeze magazine
• Membership discounts for our entertaining and meeting venues: We have several very popular options for celebrations, launches, meetings, seminars – small and large spaces that feature either harbour or marina and city views
• Priority Member access to Kawau Island accommodation rental: We own a historic beachfront property at Smelting House Bay, Lidgard House, which is conveniently located near the Kawau Boating Club and ferry service
• At Smelting House Bay, Kawau Island, we have three moorings available for member rental

The below rates apply to the 2024-2025 season

Includes all member benefits on and off the water, the ability to skipper a yacht during club races, and eligible for the General Committee to help govern our club. Full Membership fees are tiered, based on age

Partner/spouse living together (Full Members) + unlimited juniors (under 18 years old)

Participates in on-water events (e.g. crews in club races, owns a launch, powerboat or trailer yacht) but does not skipper a yacht in RNZYS races. Also participates in off-water events and enjoys full use of RNZYS premises at Westhaven and Kawau
