It’s with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of RNZYS member and sailing legend, Peter Lester.
Peter played an integral role within our community, bringing to life not only the America’s Cup, but other international sailing events throughout his career. Peter was a part of our expert sailing panel at our Gala Dinner event in Barcelona. He almost missed the evening as this was one of the longest days of racing, and he wasn’t able to leave his microphone! Peter made a quick dash across the city, to arrive at the Gala still in his behind the scenes event polo and shorts – gathered by members in full gala attire. This is just one of the many great stories of Peter’s commitment to the sport of sailing.
Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. Our flag is flying at half mast to honour our friend. Sail on Peter.
