WOMEN’S MATCH RACING – WORLD NUMBER 1
Megan Thomson and her 2.0 Match Racing Team have achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the number-one ranked Women’s Match Racing Team in the world.
Recently, Megan and her team triumphed at the Normandy Match Cup 2024 to start the Women’s Match Racing World Tour and at the New Zealand Women’s Match Racing National Championship last year.
They were third in the Women’s Match Racing World Championship in 2022 and last year were third in the Open World Match Racing Championship, marking the best-ever finish by a female in this regatta.
Their success not only brings pride to the RNZYS but also serves as a powerful motivation for women in sailing everywhere.
YOUTH MATCHING – WORLD NUMBER 2
Josh Hyde and his Waitemata Racing Team have rapidly risen through the world match racing rankings and now sit comfortably as the second-ranked Youth Match Racing Team in the world.
Their impressive performance and dedication to the sport have earned them recognition on the global stage. Recently, the team clinched victory at the Hardy Cup Youth International Match Race Cup and the New Zealand Youth International Match Race Cup, further solidifying their dominance.
Additionally, they secured a commendable fourth place at the Governor’s Cup. The team’s boat handling is a massive strength that sets them apart, showcasing the high level of talent emerging from the RNZYS.
As they continue to compete at the highest levels, Waitemata Racing Team plans to compete at the Youth Match Racing World Championship to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in December this year.
